They definitely help make the shelf more durable. They're thick enough to protect the wire shelves but not too thick to disturb the storage areas where you hang delicate clothes. I love that they are called free slides because that is a very accurate description that really adds the transparency factor. I would like you to indicate in the description how much is included. I went through customer questions to make sure it was a pack and was hoping for the best when it arrived but it is actually a pack of 25. 25 is a lot, even if I get less than 10 and more than four that would be good for me. So that's the main bonus that they really need to put in the description that it's a pack of 25.
