Nice little lamp! for oil lamps

Beautiful traditional table oil lamp with flame. Tips on trimming the wick to change the shape of the flame. Because it is a dull flame lamp, it is extremely prone to being blown out by the wind. I can't blame her for that as it's inherent in this design. You can improve this a bit by running the lamp with the wick in the "up fixed" position with the wick slightly above the baffle, but I prefer running it in the "down fixed" position with the wick below operate. I'm not talking about exotic oils, but I've used Lamplight Medallion with no problems. Just a slight odor after a while and a slight haze in the chimney that can be cleaned with regular glass cleaner. This little liquid paraffin also works with a wick. I've only heard that liquid paraffin is a problem with large wicks. For the absolute noobs with oil lamps, here's a quick guide on how to use it: > Remove the burner from the tank. There are two parts here. The burner itself and the thread adapter. I would erase everything for the biggest hole. > casting. Add oil until you reach the insert ring at the top of the tank. Don't overfill or you will be in trouble. > Gather. > Wait. If you're as excited as I was when I received it, this will be the hardest part. But you have to let the oil soak up the wick for it to work. > Remove the chimney. Be careful with the chimney as it is relatively thin glass. With my lamp, it does not sit perfectly on its holder. > Adjust wick. You want the wick to protrude slightly above the bezel (top of the burner) so you can light it easily. > Light it up. lit, they have a relatively large and smoky flame. Don't worry, we'll fix it soon. > Reinstall the chimney. You must install a chimney to create the necessary draft for the lamp to work properly > lower the wick and adjust to taste. You can find a spot of balanced flame with a wick to the top of the deflector. But I have found that it works best when the wick is pulled back under the baffle. If you cross the deflector, the flame will go down to almost zero and then flare up again and start smoking again. Keep lowering it until it stops smoking, then fine tune it until you're happy with its adjustment. > When you're done, lower it to erase. After you've finished using the lamp, or before attempting to refill it, it is best to extinguish it by throwing the wick into the holder, which will extinguish the flame. If you choose to store your lamp with oil, you should leave it in this position as well, as it minimizes the evaporation of your oil. Don't drop it too far or the wick will fall out! If you are going to store it for a long time I would disassemble it and drain the oil back into the original container.
