This microphone is perfect for my use case and the key to your decision. USE THE CASE! If you're looking for a quality XLR SM7B, this isn't it. The sound difference between XLR and USB mode is almost zero. This makes it a great USB mic, but a very limited XLR mic. The software worked flawlessly and works as expected. I had problems with audio playback through the headphone jack, but it was my fault as I had set the wrong Hz value in my PC settings. It took a call to support to find out. The software limiter also does a poor job as it doesn't prevent clipping, it just post-processes the audio. It's digital, not analog. The biggest problem with this mic is EXPLOSIVE. P-sounds are TERRIBLE. This makes this microphone very cheap. The included windshield is thinnest at the top, where you'll say about 1/8 inch of foam before it reaches the capsule. It feels like it's going to rip one day, it's so thin. This makes it unusable without additional pop protection. That's a big downside and one of the reasons I decided to return it. However, I was able to quickly install another mini shield on top of it, which is enough to avoid the hassle of returning it. That alone makes the $250 price tag too high. For the same price you're almost better off getting a Rode Podmic and an XLR interface. You also need to be very close to the microphone. I have the volume on MAXIMUM and it's still pretty quiet, even from just a few inches away. A big change from my Yeti, who could hear me from across the room. That's mostly because it's a dynamic mic and not a condenser, but overall it's still quiet and there are several ways to make it louder. The build quality is fantastic and the backlit touchscreen makes it pretty unique. The SHURE logo on the sides is a bit annoying because it's massive. The mic is exactly 6 inches long, metal construction, much smaller than the Blue Yeti (which I like). The "flattened" look compared to the SM7B got me to the point where the SM7B looks incredibly long. A NOTICE. Shure sent many of these videos to YouTube users for review, but they asked NOT to post their reviews if they didn't. like a product. So most of the first day reviews you see are written by people who enjoyed it. I'm here to tell you that it's not the SM7B killer as many names suggest, but it's the best USB mic I've ever seen. CONCLUSION: This mic falls into a very definite middle ground. for those who want a USB mic with an XLR connector, but don't want to shell out a few more bucks for a full SM7B setup. If you only want to use XLR, keep buying. There are better XLR-only options out there. When the price drops to $175, grab it.
