I bought a nice brass Baldwin lamp with a standard on/off switch. Recently my 18 year old cat started having vision problems so I decided to install this dimmer to help him see and navigate around the bedroom at night. As a homeowner, I have 40 years of experience renovating/replacing lightbulbs and wired fixtures, so a direct cord to the controller and direct connection from it to the outlet has not given me any problems. As always, I followed the instructions and checked again. all before plugging into the wall, but fire shot out of the plug anyway, triggering the switch. I took the whole thing apart and it not only blew up a week-old Westinghouse dimmable LED bulb, it also damaged the bulb socket, rendering the bulb unusable. Restore the $150 brass lamp and replace the premium bulb --> Moral of my story: don't put this in an expensive lamp or you'll probably regret it.
