I travel a lot and needed a smaller lunch box to hold the breastmilk I express on the go. This small lunch box is good for a 8-12 hour trip. It contained 25 ounces of milk in Kiinde bags, my Medela cones, and a quart-sized ziplock bag of ice. Before the trip, I froze the lunch box in my standard freezer for 12 hours, then put a quart-sized bag of 100-degree Fahrenheit water in the box and left it in my living room at 73 degrees without an ice pack. After 6 hours the water temperature reached 55 degrees and even though the lunch box lining was soft/thawed it still felt chilly. During the trip I had to fill the castle with ice every 4 hours as the ice pack melted. Medela recommends storing breast milk in the refrigerator with three frozen ice packs at 59 degrees for 24 hours. I am confident that it more than meets these requirements and my healthy 6 month old has not yet had any negative reactions to my expressed milk.
