Review on TISINO 1/4 Mono to 1/8 Stereo Cable - 3 Feet: Superior Audio Interconnect with Mono to Stereo Adapter by Pat Allen

1/8 " output jacks shorted

We would like to power a mono guitar amp with stereo output from a mobile phone or music player via a 1/8" audio output jack. Does this cable work? NOT SURE, NO. Warning: The left and right channel wires (high voltage red and white wires) are shorted together on this cable at the center pin of the 1/4 inch connector tab. The music source's stereo driver amplifiers (your phone or music player) will try to pump current into another channel - NOT GOOD - and possibly damage the output stages of your very expensive toy. Feeling lucky today and want to risk that $500 or $1000 cell phone that runs power through that shorted wire? Open the 1/4" jack cover and install some resistors to prevent the channels from shorting together. Typically, cell phones can drive headphones from 16 to 32 ohms, so if a resistor is placed between the high-side wires of each channel (the red wire gets 47 ohms in series with the ¼-inch connector tip (center pin) and the white wire gets 47 ohms). ohms in series to the middle connection of the ¼" cable lug), where they end. With the resistors used, you have double the ohm value from channel to channel and the joy prevails. 47 ohms - on each channel on the high side - still ensure adequate transfer to the guitar amp - while providing 94 ohms of channel-to-channel isolation, which is well above the impedance of any headphone you'll typically encounter. Be careful with your toys, they generally don't like shorts on outputs, you know what you're doing, or "hands off please" before you damage your $$$ stuff.
