Review on ๐Ÿ”ง High-Quality Replacement Blower Assembly for TYC 700095 Jeep by Richard Puckett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just be aware before you start exchanging!

So, the fan motor stalled in my '97 Cherokee. I bought these as a replacement. It arrived on time as expected and was installed within a few days. My jeep froze again and life in southern Nevada is great! I've had no issues with the fan rubbing against the duct or the motor spinning backwards, nor have I had any issues replacing the fan motor. All in all, it took me about 50 minutes from start to finish to complete the steps below. Now I'm not sure about other jeeps but on my 97 it was easy to install. The first thing you need to do. consists in removing the evaporator purge control valve from its bracket on the bulkhead. You don't need to remove the 2 screws from the bracket, just remove the valve from the bracket. If necessary, disconnect the electrical plug from it. (I did this because the wiring harness was tight) Place the control valve against the valve cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the top of the AC battery. My jeep has a black battery with a hard black metal wire across it that goes to the firewall and a silver hard wire that turns to rubber and goes to the air conditioning compressor. Then remove the screw on the bracket holding the AC battery. Mine was 8mm and with the 6" extension and 1/4 ratchet I had no problem removing the bolt. Completely remove the screw so you can slide the bracket off the bottom of the battery. Then loosen the wiring harness. from the firewall and right front fender so it can be moved out of the way when you are ready to remove your old fan and when you are ready to install your new fan motor. I had 2 clips total, one on the firewall and one on the fender and it gave me more than enough play to get it out of the way. Now look at the connector on the fan motor. Note its orientation. If necessary, take a picture of it to put it back in place properly. Unplug this plug. Remove 3 screws from fan motor. If you need space like my fat hands, then remove the battery by twisting it clockwise. The black hard line is on a connection that can be rotated (CAREFULLY) without losing freon. Now that all 3 screws are removed, if not necessary rotate the battery to the side, pull the wiring harness forward on the jeep, pull the blower down and lift up, possibly twisting every now and then to avoid obstacles. .Take the new fan motor and slide it out by pointing the fan DOWN the same way you pulled the old one out. The reason you want to go down is twofold. First, the fan is a few millimeters smaller than the case, but it's fragile, so use the motor case to slide the unit into place if necessary, and second, there's not enough room for the fan motor to spin to propel the fan forward . put it back into the shroud once lowered, but if the fan enters first you can simply rotate the fan into the shroud and lower it into place. Now the most important part of the installation! After relocating the fan motor to the firewall, hand tighten the screws. I used a 2" extension with a 9mm socket to hand power all 3. Then, using a 1/4 inch ratchet, tighten the screws until they are pressed against the motor housing. You can tell the difference between the space to screw a screw in and the moment it touches the engine case. DO NOT TIGHTEN the screws! This can cause the fan to push into the case and cause the grinding/rubbing that people have complained about in the past. If you are concerned about the screws not loosening, put a drop of Loctite (purple or blue) on the threads before inserting the screw. same way. At this point, reconnect any electrical connections removed earlier (or you'll get a check engine light for the disconnected evaporator valve if you disconnected it!) AND WITHOUT starting the jeep, turn on the ignition, turn on the fan. and make sure you don't hear any friction and that the airflow is good. (This will help you ensure that you A) did not overtighten the 3 screws and B) that you did not reverse the electrical connector.) Turn off the jeep and reassemble the engine bay, starting with the battery bracket, then the wiring harness and then the evaporator valve. I hope these removal and replacement instructions help someone else in the future!
