This is a great pair of compression shorts. The whole point of compression gear is that it fits like a second skin, snugly. I have a 31" waist and ordered a size Small (S). The elastic waistband should stretch a bit, but once I put it on it's quite comfortable to wear and fits like a second skin. The optics, if you are a little smaller, is really great and very inexpensive. I especially love the fit and feel under my sweatpants and look forward to wearing this combo during the winter months for stationary rowing, cycling and weightlifting. They fit perfectly and there is certainly no reason to increase the size.
