Tripp-llte offers "US$50,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance - Protects Connected Equipment Against Direct Surge Damage, Including Lightning!" with this article. I had a lightning strike related to surges in phone and power lines with significant damage to pieces of equipment connected EXCLUSIVELY to these ISOTEL protection devices. I also had other damaged hardware on Isotel protectors but was also connected to ethernet etc. In order to claim "insurance" I was asked to send back the units with schematics of all the hardware attached. Tripplite DISCLAIMS all claims ONLY on the basis that they said they found no signs of over-tension INSIDE the protectors. A Tripplite spokesman also said there are "other ways" and "ground hits" that cause damage that aren't covered. not to mention requiring internal evidence of insulator damage and not claiming pseudo-scientific exemptions from coverage. 1) I have clearly suffered significant damage to equipment connected ONLY to these ISOTEL guards. 2) Allegations of "alternative routes" and "ground strikes". "Causing damage not covered is pseudoscience when there are no other connections and contrary to published terms. 3) No examination of a lightning rod can prove that no impulse passed through it; Spikes and damage do not necessarily appear on the tread; this requirement ALSO contradicts the published terms and conditions. No insurer can prevent all damages - that's why insurance exists and why it's advertised - but you have to have some trust in the insurer. My experience with Tripplite was exceptional. unpleasant. I will no longer trust, buy or recommend their products.
