Review on πŸ’Ύ SanDisk 32GB Extreme Pro CF Memory Card: UDMA 90MB/s 600x - US Retail Package by Nick Walsh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Gross speed and power, almost impossible to read.

I love this card. I hate that as of August 2012 there are VERY few card readers that can handle it. I've tried four already, and it was only through another Revain reviewer that I was able to find out that the card readers were the cause of my problems, not my camera (the new Canon 5d Mark iii). I was able to use this card ONLY when I connected the camera directly to the computer, which of course is a terrible workflow issue, especially for video production. However, I have a Lexar Professional dual slot USB reader and it currently reads both this card and a 16GB UDMA-6 card. The box that Lexar came in (only got it yesterday) had a sticker on the front that said "UDMA 7" so I don't know if this is an upgrade of the original unit or not, but it works for me. The weirdest part is that the first few times I was able to pop the card into my trusty old Targus reader and it worked. Until it happened a few days later. The reader just stopped "seeing" the card. Doesn't show up as a drive etc. Nothing. The reader was still reading my SD cards and the camera was still working with a UDMA card, so I assumed the reader was just broken compared to CF cards. Bought another reader. That does not work. I bought another reader (Kodak, this time). That does not work. Bought another (Dynex) reader that claims UDMA compatibility. That does not work. Meanwhile, Canon technical support and dozens of forums have not helped in this matter. It was the Revain review for the Lexar reader that finally confirmed that the problem wasn't the camera, but the inability of most readers today to handle UDMA 6 or 7. Damned. However, the map is amazing, which is why it gets five stars. But remember, just because you have a card doesn't mean you can read it from anything other than your camera. But now I'm looking forward to the new Lexar reader and hope it continues to work. This is the card I bought but mine definitely says UDMA 7).
