The perfect case for my son's 80GB hard drive which I pulled out of his Apple Macbook Air after the POS hinges on it failed and he was unable to use it once the screen came up stopped working failed. He was able to get all his important school work off the hard drive to install on his new computer, then completely clean the drive, and now he's using the old working hard drive as a backup drive. It took a bit of fiddling as the cable was installed backwards when the case arrived (hence the 4 stars) but once we figured it out it's been working great ever since (over 5 months). The outside of the case is metal, but it's fairly thin and I suspect it'll be easily scratched if you hit it lightly. I suspect the case comes with thin rubber pads that fit inside the box or on top of the HD to provide some shock resistance, but I'd bet the case is lined with thin closed-cell foam for better shock absorption guarantee. Now the case is tight but everything stays in place as it should with all portable HDs.
