Update. I am very disappointed because as much as I love this bag, the shoulder strap has snapped and become unusable. Since I bought it mainly for convenience to be able to pull out that part, I threw away the shoulder bag and now rarely use a backpack. This happened after about 6-8 weeks of use. I don't usually check things until they prove they're permanent, and here's why. Wow! This purse is extraordinary! It has so many pockets and I love that it has a small shoulder bag that I can detach for a quick shopping spree. My husband always makes fun of me for taking so many things with me when I leave the house, mostly "just in case" things, and quite frankly a lot for him. Now I can keep those things in this purse, but when we go somewhere I don't have to carry them all with me unless I really want to. I keep my wallet, phone and keys in a shoulder bag and can easily pull them out of my pocket. I bought it to go on vacation and it worked great to carry on. I had enough room for my "essentials," a change of clothes for the temperature change we knew we were going to experience (80+ degrees difference), sandals included. and my toiletry bag in one easy-to-access place. It was nice to be able to carry it three different ways: in a backpack, over the shoulder, and in a purse. I am very happy with my purchase.
