Checking the probes for open circuit

I got this device and it died. I couldn't figure out what was going on after some thought and a little research, that's all. The red probe connects to pin 3 of the female (white) jack and the black wire connects to pin 3 of the male (black/main) jack. My red wire was not connected. I took a small screwdriver, broke off the plastic and soldered the wire. Then wrapped with tape. With my 50 Watt Jcm800 I could not measure the rightmost tube (V5). I moved it to the left (V4) and it worked. Now set it to 200m in your multimeter in the DC setting. This is important as you can see several 200m on your meter. The DC symbol is a solid line with dotted lines at the bottom. You should also use your meter to test DC voltage, I recommend an alligator clip. Attach one side to the chassis and the other to pin 3. I have 470 volts. This amp uses 25W EL34 each. This makes sense considering I only have 2 and it's a 50w amp. Get 470, divide by 25, then multiply by 0.7 (70%). I'm giving this a 2 because of the difficulties I had to go through to get it to work. I could have sent it back but I was bored and didn't want to wait.
