Incorrect Control Board Design

I purchased this fan in September 2019 and professionally installed it in my fifth wheel. I checked the work in the store and on arrival at home. It worked fine. I haven't used a fan at all for 3 months. I was about to travel and the fan failed. He didn't intervene. I called the installer and he came out to check it out. Power went to him, but he did not work. I contacted the seller and he said the return period has expired so I need to contact Maxx-Air. I still didn't want to return it as it was built in which would have meant taking it off the roof etc. I contacted Maxx Air customer service and after describing the problem and taking a voltage test it was determined that the circuit board was defective. The controller was damaged because the battery voltage was higher than the fan's maximum input voltage of 13.2V or 13.4V. I can't remember which. They sent me a new control board but now I needed to figure out how to fix the problem. 13.6 volts is the nominal charging voltage of the battery and my solar system can go up to 14.4 volts. A 5 amp buck converter power supply I found at D-Planet's Revain. I bought 4 packs for about $13.00. They are inexpensive. I installed one of these in front of the control board and set it to 12.2 volts to limit the voltage on the control board and fan. This will save you further problems. Had I known about this design flaw, I would have bought a second, more expensive Maxx-Air fan. Just to avoid the problem. I gave 3 stars because Maxx-Air usually makes very good products. I've been using them in my fifth wheel for years and have never had a problem. I expect this fan will perform very well for many years to come.
