Did the job for me (connected to a 2009 iMac)

I connected it to a couple of HDMI computer sources (M1 Mac, Raspberry Pi 400) and then to my old 2009 iMac (via mini DP to -Mini DP cable) connected ). iMac automatically switches to target display mode from the login screen; no need to press the F2 key. Works great with 2K iMac resolution. The end of the HDMI cable gets warm but not hot.
