This shelf consists of 5 strips that are glued together to prevent warping. Only other plus is that it's solid pine (as advertised) rather than MDF or chipboard. The stain has a water based appearance which makes it look a little more like paint and masks the texture of the wood rather than highlighting it like an oil based stain. . The patch also has a faint but noticeable diagonal stripe down one side as shown in the image. There is absolutely no finish coat on it that I can see or feel. No plastic, no wax, just pine wood stain. You also don't get any hardware with it. All in all you have a small painted pine board for $15 which is a bit pricey. If you can DIY a little, you can make more painted shelves for the same price.
