I wear a medium or large, so I ordered this medium first. I wasn't sure if the big one would be better, so I ordered the big one too. I left the big one and gave the middle one back. I'm 5'4", 140 pounds and carry my weight on my hips. I wear ankle length. That's a good weight. It's not heavy or easy to see through. I haven't washed it yet so can't comment on that say. I'm considering ordering another one in a different pattern. The customer support is amazing!
