Review on Nike Pegasus Women's Black Half Running Shoes for Women by Justin Vasquez

OH SO GOOD! Laufen

I love running and I love long distances (preferred distances: 10 km, 12 km, 15 km and half marathon). Back in high school when I was in athletics I was picked up and told I needed to use a specific Brooks line for support. I grew to love Saucony; mainly because they were cheaper, but also because they fit. After starting triathlon and ironman a few years ago, my mileage grew exponentially, so I decided to give my running shoes another upgrade for a better running shoe. At this point I found the Brooks Ghost and have been very happy for almost 9 months. It was a comfortable shoe that fit me well, but over time I found that the lack of ankle support really took its toll. FYI I change my shoes about every 3-4 months depending on how many miles I've run. Around December last year my right foot started to hurt after every run. Instead of looking elsewhere I bought the next generation Brooks Ghost. This only seemed to compound the lack of ankle support and regular foot pain after long distances. As I searched for other shoes, I was eventually drawn to Nike, even though I had never owned a pair of Nikes in my life. There are many brand suggestions in the RunnersWorld and Triathlon articles and I never thought I would see the day Nike make the top 10. I must have overlooked how much Nike has changed their running shoe line in the last decade; Assuming their shoes are more comfortable and faster now. I decided to take a chance with the Air Zoom Pegasus 36. The moment I put them on they were AMAZING! It usually takes a pair of new sneakers to travel a short distance to really break in, but these adorable lime green Pegasus felt like they were made for my feet from day one! I have to guess I have normal or narrow feet and they fit like a glove. Pegasus is like a cloud that supports all the right spots, bounces comfortably with every step, and is VERY light! I was so amazed at the lightness that I put it on the ounce/gram scale to compare with my Ghosts. A pair of Pegasus 36 weighed 478 grams and a pair of Ghost 12 weighed 568 grams. The difference is 90 grams! It might not seem like much, but when you're adding miles or covering a distance after 90km of cycling, shedding a few grams can make all the difference. On my first run with them, I took them to the track and covered 8.5 miles, 6.25 of them at race pace. On the track that day I got one of my best results in a long time. And bonus, no more ankle and foot pain! I didn't have to stretch regularly between splits either because my legs felt amazing! Indeed, time will tell how the Pegasus will hold up to the elements, but to be honest, even if it doesn't become my new running brand of all time, I'd happily keep it as my everyday hiking shoe. They are VERY COMFORTABLE! Today, after a run, I put them back on so I can wear them for the 12 hour shift. I can honestly say I've never done this with my Ghosts 11 or 12. :-) I'll report back in a few months to let you know how they're holding up. .maybe I can actually race by then?!?!?! *hopes* That is if Covid-19 ever puts fiction to rest! Hope you all stay safe and healthy! Hooray! *** 5 month update ***** Still loving the Nike Pegasus 36. Since July I've bought a second pair in pink/black to wear alternately. The shoes remain as comfortable as ever. Since October I've even managed to run two Covid sanctioned races (10k and half marathon) where I finished 1st overall women in both! However, I've found that while I like the light weight and power delivery of the Pegasus, I like it more at shorter distances. As I hit 13 miles, my joints feel like they could use more stability. At 10km Pegasus worked fantastic! I compared the solo half marathon to the Pegasus and then did the same to my old Brooks Ghost. While the Brooks still caused some blisters and leg pain, my knees and poster held up better than the Pegasus. I've learned that sometimes too much cushioning with less structure can make the body harder to maneuver between strides (at least for me). I'm still a total Pegasus fan and will continue to use them in training and DEFINITELY for all races under 13.1 miles. However, I'm now on the lookout for other shoes that go the distance with the same ease and bounce as the Pegasus, but with the stability to keep my form in check when I'm running those "big miles of fatigue". Thank you for your attention! Happy running! :-D
