Great home office monitor for use with Apple MacBook

At just over $300, this is a great monitor for the home office if you have a MacBook laptop or other Apple product. I used to have 24" and 32" monitors, but the 27" size seems to fit a standard home or office desktop. decent color palette. According to RTINGS.com, this monitor covers 99% of the sRGB color space with good grayscale (more important than most people realize) and smooth color gradients. I have no black color complaints or image storage issues mentioned in this review. The HP27Q has a matte screen that eliminates reflections common in a typical home or office environment from windows and overhead lighting. The monitor is very bright, which also helps in these situations. Almost any monitor will look good in a dark corner, but you'll rarely find one this good in bright light. For example, I have a monitor literally next to a window, which is usually the death knell for your typical glossy LCD. Off-axis viewing isn't great, but as a personal desktop monitor it should always be front and center so that's not a problem. I wouldn't recommend it as a gaming or professional color screen as it is undersaturated. Text and menus are crisp and clean at 2048 x 1152, which is easier for me to see (less strain on the Eyes). Surprisingly, the monitor comes with both HDMI and standard (not mini) DisplayPort cables. Equally impressive was a nice sturdy box with good packaging and a handle that makes it easy and safe to move around. Connecting to mains power isn't a major issue, which luckily covers the other sockets on the power strip. The included cables appear to be of a higher quality than the typical "free" stuff they put in the box. The power supply almost does not heat up. What really sets this monitor apart is its aesthetics - it looks like an Apple product with sleek white plastic and real aluminum parts. The bezel is very thin, but you can tell there's a black area around the screen that's about 1/4 inch (no image). The power indicator glows a soft white when on and a dull orange when off. You can easily live with it in your bedroom and won't be distracted by it at night while you sleep. The base is simple and square with a nice metal stand that holds the screen and allows for some angle/tilt. Only a couple of shortcomings stop it First, no cable management, so you need zip ties to tie the wires together and there's no way to hide them behind the stand (which is very strong and sturdy, but thin). and HDMI cables go straight into the back so they stick out 90 degrees - I'm perfecting the cables included at the bottom so they can hang straight down to reduce strain and it looks cleaner. Not only does the VESA mount for a bracket or wall mount inspire confidence, it pushes into the floor rather than screwing directly into the back of the device. Finally, the power and menu buttons are embedded in the back, so it's hard to tell which ones I'm pressing - I'd like side or bottom buttons that aren't as shallow. To be honest, that's not too bad since in most use cases the monitor will just sit on a table and use the same setup, connection and settings for years. In summary, I am very happy with the HP27Q at home and would buy another one to use in a heartbeat. in my office. It's very bright, has good color reproduction, sharp resolution, and handles reflections from other light sources very well. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to emulate Apple's clean, modern white and gray industrial design.
