Review on Monoprice 100055 Monitor Discontinued Manufacturer by Chuck Arradondo

Simple inexpensive switch that works

Before you buy something like this, I would advise you to check the KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch as it might be more suitable. Revain has some, some are as cheap as just switches in this video. I have 4 systems and 3 monitors (someone up there hates me). The other two monitors use a DVI or HDMI switch, and I have a USB switch and an audio switch. There are several reasons why I chose separate switches. Basically, I haven't found any KVM+ audio switcher that supports multiple monitors and needs to mix and match the other every now and then. For example, start a long job on one computer and leave it on an extra monitor while I get something done on another computer. Or play music from one computer while switching between others. If you have a choice between VGA (analog) and DVI or HDMI (digital), choose digital, the picture will be much cleaner. Another argument for separate switches may be obsolete. but the last few KVM switches I owned (10+ years ago) had annoying ringing in the VGA signal. The picture quality through the mechanical switch was much better than through those things. It was long enough, I won't mention the brand. So, in case I haven't talked you out of it, the only thing you need to know is that the cables to the junction box are different than the standard monitor cable. The computer input cables are male-male and the monitor cable is male-female. If you have decided on a mechanical switch, I can recommend this one. The quality of the image through the mixer is indistinguishable from that seen directly on the monitor.

Pros
  • That works great!
Cons
  • Screen Tearing: This occurs when the monitor's refresh rate is too slow, causing the image to appear choppy or distorted.
