I have about a dozen different "bells" from many similar plug-in bells, several types of counters, various "chains" of doorknobs with bells, and even free-standing bells that are attached, tried to a bent strip of metal. None of these fit my dog because of her size - she was too small so she didn't have enough energy to ring the bells. This bell is VERY different from the rest, especially other types of plug-in devices. Other versions require the dog to press a button. The uniqueness of this button is that it does not need to be pressed. Instead, all you have to do is click the button! At first I thought it was too sensitive because I pocketed it and sat on the couch. A few minutes later it rang, so I was sure it was a phantom call. No, my dog tested it and must have touched it - although she doesn't go potty as her training to use it is next! This was the FIRST bell my dog was able to activate! I can say with confidence that this device will work with even the smallest dogs up to 1lb as well as cats. I can't speak for longevity as I just got it, but I'm really excited to finally be able to teach her to stop fumbling around the front door to get out. Note. I was very disappointed when I first received it. Everyone says you can use it right away, and it's true. However, I wanted to change the bell. Request recommendations by simply pressing the bell button on the desired bell. But no matter what I did after selecting my call, the device always reverted to the original one. As a last try I unpaired and re-paired the device (read instructions as call selection is early) and problem solved! So if you're not getting the right signal, follow the instructions to unpair and re-pair with the signal of your choice.
