Good unit. Come back for loud fans that can't be turned off.

There are a few things I really like about this 4-bay mobile rack. ). Subjects are locked. And best of all, it's small enough to fit in my HP Z4 Workstation's chassis. The inside of the workstation is really cramped, but this one fits perfectly, unlike IcyDock's much longer options. some things that could be improved. I don't understand why the (2) 4-pin Molex power connectors are required. Someone suggested that one of them is for redundancy/redundancy purposes, but I can confirm that you need both connections for all bays to work. Two adapters from the old 4-pin connector to the new power connectors are included, but this is still a problem. However, the killer of the deal is two fans. At first they were silent; I was impressed. But it didn't last long, sometimes they sounded like something was stuck inside them. Very loud. Mostly they were just audible - more audible than any multi-drive enclosures next to the workstation. I used this rack exclusively for SSDs, so I could just turn the fans off if StarTech flipped a switch to turn them off. Verdict: The device is back because of the fan noise and the fact that you can't turn them off. Maybe I just got a bad pad, but it was amazing how quiet my office became when I removed it from my system.
