Review on Motorcraft FL 910S Oil Filter by Bobby Frazier

Revainrating 1 out of 5

You know the old saying when it seems too good to be true?

Purchased for 2015 Ford Fusion with 2.0L Ecoboost engine. Due to the price of this filter I was skeptical due to the plague of counterfeit Motorcraft/Ford parts at Revain. However, the product page said it was sold by "Motorcraft" so I figured it should be legal. If so, then the quality control is terrible. When I wanted to install the filter, I wound it by hand about 3 turns and everything went fine and easily. I then started using my short handle ratchet and filter bushing (up to the handle) to speed up the process and get my hand off the still hot engine. As I continued to twist, I began to encounter thread resistance. I immediately stopped and reversed, but the thin aluminum thread was already damaged. I had a 3/4 - 16 faucet and was only able to insert the faucet halfway into the filter threads before I felt it start to cut. He resisted to the end of the thread. Basically the thread form was bad from the factory and it messed up the oil filter adapter that the filter bolts onto. So now I'm stuck with the car on the ramp waiting for a new oil filter adapter and gasket which cost me $50 from Ford. One piece of advice: don't buy this filter, or trying to save a few bucks could end up costing you ten times as much or more.
