Review on ⛳ Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Laser Range Finder with Flag Accuracy Within 10 Inches and 2-D Course Overlays by Lance Levatte

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The most versatile range finder ever.

I am divided between this and the extremely reliable Bushnell X2. Reliability plus a battery that lasted a year or more were strong arguments in favor of the X2, but the built-in GPS function loaded with Garmin courses was too tempting to pass up. I'm glad I bought a Garmin. I was playing on a really hard track with crazy elevation changes and felt like I was cheating on this thing. Blind spots aren't a problem when you see a graphic in the viewfinder showing where each hazard is located. The pin search mode was a lifesaver. With a drop of over 100 feet, the Play As mode really helped me pick the right club. In addition, the Oled screen is very sharp and incredibly accurate as a rangefinder. For the record, I originally bought an older version of the z80 and had to factory reset it 3 times in the first week to get it working, so I returned it. Made me nervous about buying this but I'm a gimmick guy so I took a chance and I'm glad. The controls have a video game feel and it takes a bit of fiddling to get it down. Charge it up after 2 spins to be on the safe side. It is charged via USB. So if you have a trolley with a USB port, you can prevent it from being emptied. One final downside: I wish this thing had a golf cart frame magnet or the ability to clip it to my pants. There is a clip on the case, but I don't like having to install and remove it in every hole in the case.
