Description of ⛳ Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Laser Range Finder with Flag Accuracy Within 10 Inches and 2-D Course Overlays

Most accurate laser range finder on the market within 10” of the flag, up to 450 yards. Image stabilization makes it easier to find and range the flag for precise distances to the pin; vibrational feedback lets you know when you’ve locked in. Full-color 2-D CourseView mapping for more than 41,000 courses worldwide overlaid on the viewfinder. The Laser Range Arc feature draws an arc on the 2-D CourseView map at the distance the laser ranged, so you can see everything in play at that distance. Hazard view allows you to quickly scroll through each hazard on the map.

It's like a video game!

If you're willing to shell out money for it, this thing won't disappoint. One complaint I have is that he isn't smart enough to know when I'm hitting the wrong fairway and pre-selects the wrong hole to watch. I can reselect a matching hole, but the process is cumbersome and takes a minute. The second complaint is that it lifts the hills behind the pens too easily, which I eventually found is why the pen length and image look too far away.

Works great when it works.

I was impressed by the Z82's performance. The course overlay worked great when used. Extremely accurate and fast for flags around 150 yards. However, the detachment I received could not hit the flags at a distance of 200 yards or more. Used 2 times per course. Any flag over 200 yards will require multiple (10+) shot attempts when given the opportunity due to lack of speed of play. The last straw was the 250 meter hole. There were 2 groups of backups ahead of us on the tee so I waited about 15…

Everything you want with one hook.

This unit has everything you need on the golf course. The accuracy is great and you get the corrected number of meters for the slope. The pinpointer feature is great for blind throws. The app is great too and allows you to keep track of your score, shots and fairway shots. The only downside is wind tracking. It doesn't always show up. The device needs to be connected to an app on your phone for it to work, but even then it doesn't always work. Sometimes only "!" is displayed instead of wind…

Split screen with route graph is a great idea

The concept of combining a laser range finder with route information is brilliant and well executed in this device. I played a dozen courses with him and he was always quick to identify the course I was playing on and had the data for everyone. The rangefinder function works well, as does everything else. The appearance of this device leaves a lot to be desired. For example, I often use my device as a scope to see where my ball stops and often the optics aren't clear enough to see the ball like

Great GPS and rangefinder in one

I'm upgrading a Bushnell V2 rangefinder with tilting and great optics. The Z82 is fairly easy to use, but a bit tricky to aim. I suspect that Garmin can improve this with an update. The battery life is excellent. Lasts several turns before needing to be charged. I love that I don't have to buy the $11 battery that old Bushnell used. What's great about this device is that the Z82 will show you in a split screen when you come to a golf hole where there are unknown distances to off-the-tee…

The most versatile range finder ever.

I am divided between this and the extremely reliable Bushnell X2. Reliability plus a battery that lasted a year or more were strong arguments in favor of the X2, but the built-in GPS function loaded with Garmin courses was too tempting to pass up. I'm glad I bought a Garmin. I was playing on a really hard track with crazy elevation changes and felt like I was cheating on this thing. Blind spots aren't a problem when you see a graphic in the viewfinder showing where each hazard is located. The…

Incredibly good golf technique

I have to say that I bought the Approach Z82 on a spur of the moment after seeing a Garmin advert on Facebook. I used it for seven rounds. For comparison, I've had a Leupold GX-4i3 as a rangefinder in my golf career and more recently a Bushnell Tour V4 Shift. The accuracy of this range finder is as good as my previous two. There is no fear. Aiming at the flag can be a little awkward for first-time users, but you'll definitely get the hang of it, even without a steady hand. It has vibration…
