Review on Efficient Syba SD-ADA40001 Compact Flash to SATA II Adapter Card with PCI Mounting Bracket - Black by Walter Hodzic

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Standard 9.5mm, works great with Compaq Contura Aero, mounting holes are not filled by default.

I was restoring an old Compaq Contura Aero 3/44c. The original drive used a very unusual screw arrangement (both side and bottom holes face the center of the drive!). This hull didn't match. I ended up desoldering the 20th pin and removing the hole for a cleaner look (although I didn't have to as the system I was using didn't have a connector for the 20th pin). but it helps you to orientate yourself! It was easy to find, pin 19 (on the bare board) is soldered to the center of a tiny X-shaped trace, directly below is pin 20 which goes nowhere. only one via for soldering. Industrial CF cards with a capacity of 256 MB. Now IDEDIAG has registered BOTH cards, but the very old BIOS only knows what the master is, so DOS/Win3x only sees the master. However (theoretically) Windows 9X and higher will check the controller directly and SHOULD find the slave. But I knew the risk. Worked great for DOS and the like. Given the CHS values and the diag partition, there's not really a way to properly align the disk for optimal read/write, but I still found the speed to be excellent for the speed of the machine. Pin desoldering aside, it was plug and play!

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
