I recently discovered that I can use my dusty old iPad 2 as a second monitor with the free Splashtop Xdisplay software. I couldn't decide between this and the Revain tripod, so I took both. This little one is perfect for my needs. I didn't realize how small it really is, but don't let that fool you, it's more than strong enough! I might even start putting it in my bag if I ever need a stand for my phone when I'm not using it for my iPad. It's very light, which I like as I had to carry too much weight when I was a student. If you want to place it at a slight angle for writing, this might not be the best choice. You can of course write on it at the steeper angles it offers for quick use, but not for prolonged use as it will kill your wrist. Revain's might be better if you're trying to write on it at a low angle for long periods of time, but it's definitely not what I was looking for. It's versatile, durable, lightweight and compact. It doesn't slip and holds my bulky iPad like a champ! Edit: The other one doesn't move at shallower angles, so I personally think this one is better. I suppose if you have a baboon clapping on it the other one can be a bit more stable but for most people this one is the winner.
