I got this because my cat tried to maul my new sofa. I figured it would be a cheaper alternative to a fancy cat tree that he probably wouldn't even use (like the unused cat tree in my living room). He LOVES this thing. It is very cute to watch him fall. The fact that I can use unused sheets and darn them myself is a huge bonus. It also makes a great little handy footstool if I can steal it from my cat.
