great vortex mixer for tabletop hobbyists

I bought this vortex mixer in order to better mix the paints I use for tabletop miniature gaming. Some of the vortex mixers I saw had smaller tops that seemed specifically modeled for the scientific applications this mixer is used for, such as test tubes. This was a concern and why I was attracted to this particular model. I use Vallejo, P3, Citadel, and Warcolours paints most often so I have a wide variety of container shapes that I need to be compatible with a mixer. This vortex mixer is a…

Pros
  • Works incredibly well for mixing hobby paints.
Cons
  • The touch and continuous mode features may be confusing and difficult to navigate for some users

works well and quick and easy

I hated to use the Robart paint shaker I have for my liquid watercolor paints: time consuming to strap in bottle, loud, slow working and with a bad track record for durability. I have not had this vortex mixer for long, but have been very pleased with how well and easily it works with my Dr. Ph Martin's Hydrus liquid watercolors in one ounce bottles. About 20 seconds to mix even bottles I haven't used in quite a while. I have not put any ball bearings in the bottles as it seems to work fine…

Pros
  • Lab Instruments & Equipment
Cons
  • The noise level of the shaker may be too loud for some work environments

works well for mixing model paints.

The vortex mixers really work and this one is very good. One feature that differentiates it from other vortex mixer is an switch that goes between operating by pushing down or continuous run.Continuous run is very easy to use especially when a lot of mixing (a new jar or an old one.) is required. You don't have to constantly push down so easy on the hand.

Pros
  • Industrial & Scientific
Cons
  • The continuous mode may cause excessive wear and tear on the shaker over time

If you are using this to mix small items (like a microcentrifuge, or even up to a 50 mL conical) this is a fantastic little machine. And I'm sure that's what it was designed for. I needed something that was going to mix 5-10 lbs at a time, and thats where it isn't quite strong enough. BUT the suction on the lid is pretty strong, and you really can't beat the value here. I still use it, but with 5-10 lbs it gets too heavy and it stops vibrating, so its a game of holding some weight up, but still

Pros
  • 4.4 x 4.4 x 6 inches
Cons
  • The shaker may require more maintenance and upkeep due to its heavy-duty design

Great Hobby Paint Mixer

This is the first mixer that I purchased for my collection of model paints (Vallejo model color, Lifecolor, Tamiya, Gunze Mr. Color, and others), and I have to say it is worth the price. The unit is stable and the motor is capable of mixing some pretty thick and separated paint. I plan to get some mixing balls, but even without these it does an amazing job. I'm glad I went with this instead of the cheaper offerings available.

Pros
  • No
Cons
  • The size and weight of the shaker may require a large workspace or lab area

Defective Power Switch

The power switch just stopped working a few months after I bought this. Yes, it still works, you just have to plug and unplug it every time you want to use it or leave it running continuously.

Pros
  • Heavy and well made.
Cons
  • The high voltage of 110V may not be compatible with all electrical outlets, limiting its use

Works awesome for me!

I use it for mixing small amounts of paint in my mobile-based business. I have it permanently plugged into my generator, in an out of the way, yet handy spot. It seems really well made. VERY happy so far!

Pros
  • Pretty heavy, quiet, and the suction cups actually work!
Cons
  • The heavy-duty design makes it bulky and difficult to transport
