Review on Crucial BX 240GB SATA CT240BX500SSD1 SSD by Franciszka Zamska ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm impressed! Exactly the product deserves your attention.

Built on Silicon Motion SM2258XT controller, Micron 3D TLC NAND 8MA2D NW912 memory chip (DRAM-less) In short, it’s quite a decent SSD for its price tag, for use at home and for storing not the most important information, but there are some moments: 1. DRAM-less technology - execution without an auxiliary memory chip for the cache. Of course, this does not add to the advantages of this model, in synthetic tests the indicators are much lower than those of SSD manufacturers with this microcircuit, but in real life I would not say that the difference is noticeable. 2. I have this SSD in place of the standard one in a DELL laptop, and the temperature without load is kept around 50 C, at a load of 60 C. The specification says that the operating temperature range is up to 70 C, however, all monitoring programs, including Crucial's own, issue notifications of temperature violations. 3. In your own software from the manufacturer, you can enable the "Momentum cache" function, which will use up to a quarter of the free RAM as a buffer for the hard drive. At the same time, the indicators in the tests grow several times (up to 1000 mb / s), however, I did not notice a noticeable noticeable increase in performance "by eye". 4. A kind of health counter, which depends on the internal operating time counter. Those. if you do half the write cycles (40 out of 80 TB), you will see health in the monitoring programs - 50%. 5. Rather, the problem is not in the SSD, but in my Win10 OS, but until I disabled the "shut down the hard drive after" function in the "Power options", the computer with this disk did not work adequately - it did not voluntarily exit hibernation mode, spontaneously fell asleep, and just hung for a few minutes from time to time. After turning it off everything started working fine.

Pros
  • Price-quality ratio
Cons
  • Heating, lack of buffer memory.
