Review on πŸ“· High-Definition Capture with Panasonic HDC-TM20 SD & HDD Camcorder (Silver) by Christopher Sullivan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High definition camcorder with excellent picture and sound quality

I am not an expert on video equipment and have no experience with analog products of this product. I wanted to stabilize the image as I have a slight tremor in my right hand and have read in several places that Panasonic optical image stabilization is very good. Other competitors have electronic image stabilization, which I assume is similar to digital zoom. not the real thing. Anyway, I wanted a hard drive AND an SD card slot in case the hard drive ever failed. I needed a good zoom and 16x is enough. To get a 70x zoom. You need to buy a standard definition model and use anything over 16X in addition. you need a tripod with you. And I REALLY wanted HD! BTW, many camcorders say HDD on the hard drive side, NOT High Definition, and THAT confuses a lot of people. Not only that. It has an SD slot, which can be confused with standard definition, which this camera doesn't have. TOO many confusing acronyms and abbreviations! :) Well I am happy with my purchase. The battery charges very quickly (no more than 2-3 hours) and lasts 45-60 minutes. I notice very little jitter in the "video" (remember this video?). The sound quality is fantastic. The external image quality is excellent. It's a bit grainy in low light (not terrible). So you need to turn on the light with built-in light too. I was concerned that since this affordable model uses a cheaper sensor, it wouldn't look too good. but I was quickly satisfied. I think I'll have to spend at least another $300 to try and see if there's a difference. The touch screen is easy to understand. The face recognition is incredible. You point the camera at a group of people and everyone has squares around their heads! I pointed them to my Shih Tzu. but it didn't work :( no dog snout detection system. It seems to have a lot of great features and I'm sure I won't be using them all any time soon. But I'll always leave it on the highest settings I hate things taking pictures only to find i forgot putting them back up might be easier but i think they are all like that now.with such a small body.i also found i wasn't recording when i thought , it would be me. I wish there was a clearer "Pickup on" ad because you have to pay more attention. Plus it doesn't weigh anything. You also understand "How much did I pay for a piece of air?" But that's being advertised now .in the side pocket of my Mac via USB cable and after a few seconds it pops up Xia and I can easily save clips through iMovie I would recommend this camcorder to anyone with a high resolution, hard drive, memory card stick corner seat and want a good zoom. I paid about $503 including taxes after my $100 Revain vouchers. If you are looking for HDC-TM20, Youtube has sample videos. However, remember that the quality usually degrades when a person uploads it to Youtube unless they have a paid account. Compare the HD example with the SD example. You really want to spend extra money on HD. There is one big difference. One more thing, the red finish is a really nice deep dark metallic burgundy. very attractive.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models
