I was attracted to Brother printers having previously had two so I started looking at Revain for Brother printer products. As usual, there are too many choices and it takes a long time to choose, but HEY! Making decisions from home without having to go shopping and having plenty of product reviews to help you is a blessing (albeit a bit ambiguous). I was a bit concerned that getting a new printer up and running these days would be more difficult. as they all say "wireless" which is a feature I don't need and may need additional software to find and download to make it work. No way! When I bought it I knew it had the option to connect via USB and it couldn't be easier. When I wanted to work with the printer, I just opened up my laptop (running WIN 10) and connected the USB cable to the printer and the laptop and plugged the printer into 110V. While I scanned the quick guide on how to load the ink and paper , I checked the flag on the laptop for "new device" and when I finished loading the paper and ink it was ready to print and became my "default" printer. No other interface with the laptop was required to run the test page. Loved the print quality - sharp and clear and the print speed was very impressive. The noise level is quite moderate (less than my previous Brother model), and I like the clarity of the small display panel and its ability to tilt it for easy viewing. The ink cartridges are big, easy to load and hopefully you don't have too many ink maintenance issues. Slight inconsistency with claims that the ink lasts a year or more and then Brother ink packs clearly state that the ink should be used within 6 months - expiry date really? I don't make many copies so we'll see, but I think I'll go with "factory" ink this time when I need refills. My last machine and its predecessor both failed due to printhead problems and I've always used third party cartridges - false economy? However, the last machine served 9 years; look at this new one. overall impression? - very cheap and I am very satisfied. I'll let you know if I have any problems, but no problems so far.
