MY original Alexapure filter stopped filtering at less than 800 gallons. This is less than 20% of the cost quoted by the manufacturer. I cleaned it according to her instructions, only filtering the crystal clear waters of Alaska Creek. I have extensive experience with various water filter systems. This one doesn't hold up, I don't want to be in a real world survival situation where there's only dirty muddy water to filter. We had to go back to our old Platypus brand gravity filter, which is less convenient but still WORKS. I feel terrible that I recommended this to a few friends but at least they haven't bought it yet. I wrote to the seller and he worked with me to fix what turned out to be air leaking into the filter, resulting in an air lock. I didn't see anything about this in the instructions but I managed to hold the filter over my head and suck on the filter to let air through. I'm not sure I would have guessed that without being able to email the manufacturer. Ps. My mind is haunted by images of people in need of help after a natural disaster whose Alexapure filter just stopped working.
