Great product, but you MUST meet the system requirements.

I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this item after reading the negative reviews, after all it costs $200. After a long search I decided on the product. Initially, my machine didn't recognize the hardware and just shut down randomly, but after I inserted the included installation CD everything was fine. To copy a home video, just press the button on the device or click the icon on the desktop. You then have the option of using HP's Quick Transfer Wizard, which lets you choose a theme, title, and date, print a CD/DVD sleeve, and then burn the movie to DVD very quickly. You also have the option to use the 4 different included software programs to record/edit your video. One lets you merge two videos, one lets you add comments to your home videos, one gives you similar features to the Quick Transfer Wizard (with a few extra features), and a third lets you edit videos however you like. , then Create Chapters, Create and Burn DVD Menus. No matter what software you use, it's very easy to use and there's GREAT help documentation too. If you really have a problem you can just email HP and they always reply in less than 45 minutes which is the fastest support for ANY business today. Of course, everything you read always tells you that any action involving video requires a lot of processing power. You MUST make sure you meet the minimum requirements or your computer will freeze during the process. Even if you have a high-performance computer, all other functions will be very slow when working with video, so I recommend creating DVDs if you don't need quick access to the Internet or other programs. This slowness/stuttering is NOT HP's fault, it's just a result of the video work, it happens with EVERY brand no matter how expensive. Because of this, other people have rated the product unfairly. Whether you want to transfer your home videos to DVD or you are just looking for a great external DVD burner, this product is for you. It even supports dual layer recording. (If you don't know what it is, it's just a process that allows you to burn duplicate data to a DVD by creating two layers instead of one.)

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Annoying
