Okay believe me I know all the faults of this humidifier. I had 6 of these. I currently have 3 but previously 3 others had failed in the past (1 was still under warranty and was replaced free of charge). First check the white label next to the plug for the date code. This is the month and year your device was manufactured. That's important, because Crane has yet to find the perfect design for this thing, and among my SIX devices, no two are alike! (I think they know this too because their customer service is AMAZING if you run into any problems within a year of purchase). Tip: Only use distilled water. Follow the instructions in the instructions for use for disinfecting with vinegar. THE GOOD: - Excellent customer service from Crane - Having owned other brands of humidifiers that cost about the same, the build quality is very smooth and polished. This device can serve as a practical decoration.- Good performance and quiet [if all components do not burn out. See below]. I always keep one next to my bed and the other floats between my desk and living room. I've never had any problems with puddles or drips. WHAT TO CONSIDER: This unit is prone to unbalanced fans that wear out over time and atomizers that just stop working. This is where the problem with puddles can arise. look for it! Only one of mine came in with an ill-fitting cone. But I always save parts from my old broken blocks and have spares to replace. Otherwise I would suggest lubricating the base of the cone with silicone. - Try to prevent an automatic shutdown. It's controlled by a float switch in the water tank, and I find my humidifier sounds like a car about to stall because the float switch is rapidly turning the unit on and off since the water level is in that intermediate zone and not low enough to actually disable it permanently. IMHO this should be decided by the faucet as it wears out the above parts and leads to failure. This wear and tear usually causes other reviewers to complain about the loud noise of the fan motor. this is the sound of approaching death for the device. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS: White with blue tank is always slightly different from other color schemes (different grips, higher overall power). To be honest, I think this is the most enduring one - my enduring one - this one. Do not ask why. Average lifespan 2 winter seasons (except my white/blue one. It's 3rd!) Overall yes I recommend this humidifier. For the price if I have enough for 2-3 winters of constant work then I will say this is a good product. If you don't care about looks at all and don't mind loud billiards noises in your aquarium, then go for a Safety First brand humidifier for almost half the price, although I can't say it's any more durable than the Crane Teardrop molded humidifier.
