Review on Sangean PR D15: The Ultimate FM Stereo Rechargeable Portable Companion by Joseph Montes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

You can use AA batteries with C size adapters. There is also a smart alarm!

I like this radio because it works so well. I won't complain about the physical design as I have worked in electrical engineering and am aware of the cost. Had it been built the way other reviewers have suggested, it would have been a $200 radio. Sangean has created an outstanding radio at a fraction of the cost. Distant AM stations come in at night as if they were local. The stations appear to be in a nearby town. FM is good but my Sangean MMR-88 picks up distant or weak FM stations better. You can also use AA rechargeable batteries with C-size adapters if you can't find original C-size rechargeable batteries. I already had a bunch of AA batteries, so it was better to buy cheap C-size adapters. The clock radio is very intelligent. If you choose to be woken up by a station that isn't broadcasting or doesn't recognize music or speech, the smart alarm will default to beeping mode. I discovered this when my favorite local independent radio station wasn't always open at 5am. This standard beep sounded only when the station was silent from time to time. I did a test and set the radio mode alarm one minute ahead on a white noise station. Of course the alarm went off after a minute, and after a second no radio signal was detected and defaulted to beep alarm mode. Really very spicy!
