Buy this radio at shortwave stations

I have long been looking for a good radio module that I can easily take with me to use at home and at work. This is my second PR-D15. The first one I fell was three feet high. The impact shattered the spring clips holding the batteries in place. As a result, the batteries were disconnected and the device could not receive power. I thought about looking for another walkie-talkie but decided to buy another PR-D15; and I'm glad I did. Like the first, this one worked right out of the box. it has a…

Exceptional FM reception and features!

It used to be relatively easy to find a good, basic FM radio. It's not like that anymore. It's even harder to find a device with great reception in "remote" (often rural) locations like mine in Maine and Mississippi. Fortunately, Sangean makes just such radios at an exceptionally affordable price. The PR-D15 has a very good sound, the controls are convenient; Its size and slim profile make it suitable for tight spaces, and especially the bunny ear ANTENNA AND FINE TUNING FUNCTION CONNECT WELL…

Note on batteries: It's worth buying real C batteries There are many brands that are not conscientious in the sense that they are really just AA batteries in a C container , and therefore don't last as long as the conscientious C's. The conscientious C's are a bit hard to come by. . However, I did purchase the SunLabz kit and it turned out to be great. They didn't last very long on the very first charge, but the charge has lasted a long time since. UPDATE: May 2017. AM reception suddenly…

  • Same as everything before

  • Sad packaging

I like this radio because it works so well. I won't complain about the physical design as I have worked in electrical engineering and am aware of the cost. Had it been built the way other reviewers have suggested, it would have been a $200 radio. Sangean has created an outstanding radio at a fraction of the cost. Distant AM stations come in at night as if they were local. The stations appear to be in a nearby town. FM is good but my Sangean MMR-88 picks up distant or weak FM stations better…

Sangean finally made it

I have had a Sangean PR-D5 for 4 years. I liked the radio but it had some flaws. The PR-D15 is an updated version of the PR-D5 and I think Sangean did a great job of addressing these shortcomings. The new version has a carrying handle. It's huge. I've dropped my PR-D5 multiple times because it didn't have a handle. Can't believe this wasn't part of the original design. Another great upgrade is the onboard charger. I use rechargeable batteries and find it inconvenient to remove the batteries and

Took 14 months. Two month warranty --- REVISED ---

Took a year and two months, that's a two month warranty but Sangean fixes it for $48. I told them I didn't pay much more to begin with and don't want to buy another one, thanks. This is a good radio as long as it works so I gave it two stars instead of one. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but if it's yours, it'll cost $48 to fix. UPDATE I made a big discovery regarding my radio that no longer works. When I called Sangean, I told them the radio had gone off and the message 'Power Failure' came up on the

Today's best AM DX radio for the money.

I bought this Sangean PRD-15 based on many reviews I read. GE SRIII (which I haven't touched in about 10 years) I liked both GEs. But when I took my SRIII out of storage it was practically unusable. Spiky pans, jerky tuning, terrible sound. It was a great radio for the time I've owned it and working with its features I've had many long distance listening moments. After a long absence from AM DX's with a real desktop/big portable radio. I needed a new one. Digital display to download, I wanted…

Pros
  • Large selection

This radio is used 75% for AM talk radio and 25% for iPhone podcasts via the AUX jack (talk radio again). AM reception is excellent (hard to believe but VERY close to my much more expensive CCRadio 2E Plus which is known for its excellent AM section). And the AUX function works exactly as expected. All controls work perfectly. It has solid build quality and good plastic (although I wish they weren't shiny - just personal preference). The folding handle feels sturdy and easy to carry. When used…

Acid Test Part II

I use a different tactic in this review than other PR-D15 reviews here. and replaced the PR-D5 which I also own and reviewed almost two years ago: http://www.amazon.com/review/R20OHQ1QCHCTQ8/ Here are the feature differences between the PR-D15 and the PR-D5. :* AM and FM digital signal processing* 7-step signal strength meter* Electronic bass and treble controls* C-size rechargeable NiMH batteries* Frequency fine-tuning in 1 kHz steps for AM and 0.01 MHz steps for FM as well as for Toggle…
