Just add water?!

Bottled ink takes a long time to dry. On many different types of writing and drawing paper, it smears after just 10 or 20 minutes. After my initial review, I read something and found that adding water to even a 50/50 ratio helps solve this problem. In fact I only add about 25% water to 75% ink and it really makes a big difference. The blood doesn't seem to be getting any worse, still quite dark and black, sharp and contrasting. For writing I would say it is an excellent ink. The price is very good, plus add water and it gets even cheaper. Although I will not use it undiluted. I'll probably fill a few small containers with a dropper to get the ink ratio. I think I might even end up just adding water to the bottle as the level goes down. It comes as full as you can get in a glass bottle - be careful! When it comes to art, it matters. Just pen and ink, great. For any water work from above, not so much. As others have pointed out, even after hours or days, the ink can still be attacked by water and watercolor washes. A defined line will still be maintained, but some ink will dull the area gray. Neat light washes near the lines are not that problematic. Hair dryer helps, but is cumbersome and impractical on site. I would probably go with Platinum Carbon in this case as it is probably the most water resistant fountain pen ink, although when dry it has a gray sheen in some angles and is more expensive. Also, De Atrimentis document or archival ink is probably the best waterproof fp ink, albeit much more expensive. Next is their performance with flex tips, which isn't great either. I have a converted Noodler's Konrad with a Zebra G spring and ebony lining that keeps up. On plastic food I have trouble with the railroad. I can try Heart of Darkness which I've heard is much better in the dry and arguably better in a flex serve too. Just take a look.
