A friend of mine has a problem with hyperextended knee and general knee stability after an accident 26 years ago. I use Black Golf on her knee along with another tanning option, it worked well until about 3 months ago she started having discomfort walking about 3 miles. I used this headband over a black golf, wrapped it above the knee and crossed it back while her knee was slightly bent, then wrapped it underneath and crossed it back up and repeated. (The bandage has it's own Velcro that attaches anywhere) I then put on a beige golf over the bandage. I find it important not to cross the knee in front, crossing the back provides resistance to straightening the knee (if slightly bent it would wrap). So far, we've done two four-mile and three 3.5-mile hikes with this configuration with no knee issues.
