Review on 1 TB WD My Book Mac USB 2.0 External Hard Drive for Desktop by Owoeye Reed

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far this is a real winner.

Only used a few days; but so far this is a winner. I'm obsessed with backups; and I had a 3TB Hitachi drive and wanted to clone another one as a backup. I cloned Hitachi in MyBook. Of course, that took some time; but everything went smoothly. None of the drives overheated or did anything out of the ordinary during the 12 hour process. (It really wasn't that long ago that I had enough cloning space.) In fact, the MyBook worked so well that I decided to use it as my main desktop hard drive and keep the Hitachi as a backup. First off, there are two reasons I made this choice. First, the MyBook is very quiet; and the other reason is that as soon as the USB cable is connected to my MacBook Air, the MyBook turns on and hangs. Hitachi would not install unless I first unplugged and then plugged the power adapter back in, then plugged in the USB cable. This process works well as a backup clone as I will be plugging in power and USB at the time I want to clone. The MyBook is much better as it mounts without any fuss once the USB port is plugged in. For the price is unbeatable; and if you have a Mac, you don't really need one of the new USB 3 drives, as you'll only be using USB 2 for now anyway (Thunderbolt drives will probably become affordable in a year or so). I am very happy with this one. But if anything changes I will change this review.
