When connecting to various devices, I was surprised to find that some connectors did not fully insert the connector, as if the diameter was small enough to prevent insertion depending on the device. I concluded that the manufacturing tolerance was violated and stopped using it. Some time later I came back to this issue with the intention of making a decision to reject or repair. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the narrower insulating ring between the ring conductor (center conductor) and the sleeve was to blame - it protruded a little, just enough to cause a problem. Using a sharp knife, I was able to easily scrape off the excess plastic and fix the problem. I suppose if you were persistent enough this extra material would eventually wear out with repeated use, but I didn't want to risk damaging the jack in the process. A minor inconvenience, but easily resolved.
