Review on Audio Technica AT VM95C Moving Turntable Cartridge by Ray Adair

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Inexpensive for electronic music, DJs and karaoke

My daughter is into vinyl and asked if she could borrow one of my old turntables. So of course I was excited to install an old Pioneer servo for it. Since she's not a music lover yet, I didn't have to buy her a high-end cartridge. But I wanted to get something relatively decent. This unit sounds better than I expected! Sure, it's not in the same class as my more expensive AT, but it doesn't cost hundreds of dollars! I'm happy with the build quality, sound and looks. Interestingly, the wiring was reversed from an 80's AT cartridge that I replaced on an old Pioneer. So pay attention to the setting! The only thing I don't like is that the cartridge nose is rounded. Historically, AT cartridges had a straight and square face, making it easier to set shock/tracking. A rounded front requires a little work. My tired old eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, so I hope I'm on the right track!
