I needed to replace a faulty bottom heating element on a six year old water heater. I bought this socket and tin core not knowing what kind of gap issues I would run into. It took that outlet, a 1/2"3" extension cord, and a breaker to disconnect the failed heating element. You can switch to a short ratchet once it becomes loose. I tightened the new heating element to about the torque needed to loosen the broken element and watched the rubber washer to make sure it was compressed properly. Don't forget to turn off the heating!
