Although my Lexus sedan was on the compatibility list, I wasn't aware that there were no side straps. The top straps are ok and hold up well. The bottom straps are a bit flimsy and the buckles are small and flimsy. I found the plastic loops holding the bike in place difficult to attach and the lack of instructions for doing so didn't help. To allow my bike to move on the rack I added two large elastic cords. I attached the elastic cords around the bike and to the bottom bumper openings. The bike stayed very secure with the extra cables. However, I'm sending this bike rack back, even if I have to spend a little more for the next one.
