Short Bluetooth range limits usefulness

Although listed as an Apple-approved Sylvania outlet, it uses Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi and has a ridiculously short range of around three meters. To communicate with this outlet, your phone or tablet must be no more than ten feet away. If the socket is in the child's room and your hub is in the living room, you are too far away to control the socket. Wi-Fi is the best choice, especially mesh networks. Sylvania chose to use older technology, probably because it's cheaper. Also, this POS is bulkier and cheaper in hand than the best brands. It's frustrating that Apple doesn't have quality standards for approved products. Don't get me wrong, this Sylvania store is not a bad product. It works and is as easy to set up as any of these "smart" devices. It doesn't stop responding on the fly (when you're within range) and then needs to be reset more frequently than other smart bulbs or sockets. However, for the price, I expected the product's features and overall quality to be on par with other similar products that offer a slimmer and more modern design, dual power outlets, and power monitoring for the same price. Basically do a little research. and if you're lucky, you'll read an honest review or article that acknowledges some of the shortcomings of smart devices that seem to be exacerbated by design. Installation can take quite a while and the task can be frustrating. They regularly stop working and need to be reinstalled from scratch. You need to keep track of the product code number, which is not always on the product but is required to add it to the network. They regularly become unresponsive for a while just because it's uncomfortable. You can spend an hour setting up a smart lightbulb so you can turn on the light from another room. I can turn the lamp on in five seconds by simply walking up to it and flipping the switch. You have to choose the smart way (expensive, tough, sensitive) or the smart way (cheap, easy, reliable), but you can't have it both ways, although fools and liars will say you can. In short, we live in the 21st century!
