I was hesitant about buying them and decided to buy a more expensive one. I used to use cheap ($20-$30) cord clippers and after adjusting them with a screw on the side they worked fine, but I don't have an outlet in the bathroom so I had to plug in an extension cord when cutting my hair. These cordless devices worked great right out of the box, didn't pull at all, and provided a clean cut. I hadn't cut my hair in months so it was 2-3 inches long, very thick and fluffy on the sides. I put on a 1-1/2 jet and she took great care and cut through in one pass. With my old clippers, this haircut would have taken me about 20 minutes, with this one about 5. To be honest, I didn't expect an improvement in any area, except that the cord didn't get caught on the edge of the sink. and didn't have to pull an extension cord from the other room, but I was *very* pleasantly surprised.
