This year I finally decided to take proper care of my gear. Aside from the fact that gasoline, especially 2-strokes, stays in the fuel tank for too long, I never knew how many hours I wasted on the two small engines I have. Among other factors, business hours are very important to keep track of things. Last year I bought two things that I think are bigger. One of these trimmers was about $650 and the other was a Revain alternator for a few hundred. I bought two of these counters to keep track of their run time. Installation was quick, it took about 10 minutes. It took longer to decide where I needed the gauge and plan for some wiring than it did to install it. It's been a few months but it comes with a counter, screws and zip ties. You can use one or the other or both together to attach. I started by wrapping the wire around the spark plug wire a few times and then securing this "coil" right behind it with a small zip tie to keep it clean. I then chose a place to mount the gauge and made sure the rest of the wire from that spool could get where I wanted it. All you have to do is thread the wire through a couple of terminals, two or three, located on the face of the meter. Anyway, I'm happy with this purchase. It is very easy to install and helps protect your investment as it can tell you exactly when maintenance is due. What's that, about $10? Now, if I run my portable generator monthly, I know within 6 minutes how long this engine has been running. It's time to change the oil!
