Review on ๐ŸŽง RockJam DJ Laptop Stand - Portable with Adjustable Height, Anti-Slip Design for Laptops, Controllers, and CD players by Michael Wiley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very suitable for my unique need for a small synth stand.

After experimenting with a music sequencer without a DAW using Novation Circuit, I bought a Novation Launchpad MK3 and set up three of my synths on it: my Uno Drum, Yamaha Reface DX and my Arturia MiniBrute. Launchpad (LP) can handle four tracks and I also recently bought a Novation MiniNova but didn't have desk space to set it up with three other synths. I've been looking for PC monitor risers for a long time but they are so bulky that I was concerned that the stand alone would take up a lot of desktop space and I would run out, then I stumbled upon these. As a laptop stand, I would only trust it to be permanently set up and only if it's not near the edge of a table/countertop. However, thanks to the various adjustment points and the thin bezel, you can see that lifting one of my synths up and fitting a fourth synth underneath it did a great job. The only thing that confuses me a bit is that the width adjustment of this stand is limited. If you look at the photo, my MiniBrute synth is significantly longer than the laptop, but the stand width adjustment is maxed out and you can see it can't reach the edges of the Minibrute. However, the MiniBrute are reasonably balanced and supported by this stand, so I can't really complain. The stand had more than enough height adjustment; I can easily read and reach all of the controls on my MiniNova sitting under the MiniBrute without having to bend or bend my arm at all. In fact, I originally set the height too high. I had plenty of room under the MiniBrute. While the stand still holds the MiniBrute well with no wobble or anything, I decided to lower the height a bit and am glad the stand at least has this wide range of adjustment. So, as other reviewers have said, yes this stand is thin metal so it wouldn't stand up to traffic. It's not easy to remove, further discrediting the stand as a portable device. But in a situation like mine where you have a small electronics box and need to raise it to a height so you can place another box underneath, this stand might be the way to go (in a permanent installation). As for the quality of the parts, yes this thing is cheaply made, I'm not hiding it. I didn't have any build issues but I can see how easily the quality can go down at this level. Please see my notes on customizing the width of this stand. For smaller synths, like those with 24-37 keys, this stand holds them perfectly. I have a feeling you can balance a lightweight device like a 49-key MIDI controller on this stand as long as you don't play the controller aggressively. But I don't think the stand will support anything longer or heavier, like a 61-key electronic piano or a high-end synthesizer with a longer keyboard. My MiniBrute is a solid little device, but this stand keeps it very solid and stable, and I trust it to support my other synths (Akai TimbreWolf, Novation Bass Station II) when I decide to use the synths in my non- DAW setup.
