I party and eat a lot and often make my favorite dish (carbonara) if I have the right ingredients like guanciale. This bowl is the perfect size for it and Amatricana. It's also good for small, simple salads and even Southern dishes like shrimp and grits, red beans and rice, etc. They're weighted, nicely constructed, and easy to hand wash. Of course, they can be machine washed (which I sometimes do), but their main value in my household is serving size consistency. My wife and I and our circle of friends are elderly gentle and these bowls allow you to maintain a decent portion size without overfilling or heaping. Sometimes presentation is just as important as the dish itself, and it pays off!
