Saved us in the winter of 2015. I can not recommend it!

I cannot recommend these boots more highly. I've bought them before and sent them back. I thought they were difficult to put on and hold on to and when my dog tried to walk in them his reaction was so absurd that I figured I shouldn't even try anymore. Then came last winter. We had an unprecedented amount of snow and almost 2 months of severe frosts. My dog doesn't want to go to the bathroom in the yard and honestly he couldn't either because of all the snow. We had to go out into the street. This quickly became a problem as the cold burned his paws and after only a block he stopped and held up his paws for me to rub. Desperate, I returned to Facebook and searched for a solution. Muttlucks was immediately recommended by a friend. I giggled and said I had tried them before and they were fun. He laughed at me and said I must have bought the wrong size and referred me to the company's website for sizing instructions and advice on how to train your dog to wear boots. After reading the product information and recommendations in detail (I bought the previous pair retail at a pet store), I decided to give it another try. The size I wanted and the color I preferred weren't in stock from the manufacturer so I came here to get Revain and found a pair. If I had bought them early in the season I could have gotten them for half the price, but obviously I wasn't the only dog owner looking for a solution to frozen paws in 2015. I was again concerned that this would be a costly failure. .Wearing them for the first time was just hysterical. My dog was pretty docile but he had this look on his face. What do you do with me. The expression on his face was just pathetic and very funny. The manufacturer's instructions were to put them on fully and then secure them firmly with velcro straps. I realized that, in fact, the denser the better. I also left the knit portion of the sock pulled up to his foot, which looked really silly, but it was all about function, not form. When he took his first steps in the kitchen with Muttluks I was quite skeptical. He walked like Bambi when he first got up. But others have told me that the key is getting the dog out and moving with him. So we did. The first walk was not easy. He walked like Bambi and I was still afraid the boots would fall off. They didn't. Walking got better once he realized he was outside and his paws weren't cold. The next day it was a bit easier to put the boots on. At the end of the 5 days he was really happy that I put the boots on. I think the association with boots and walking is already established. We walked in boots (and coats) for about an hour every day throughout March. After the snow had settled quite a bit and it wasn't so terribly cold anymore, we still used the boots because now they kept his paws dry and kept all the snow, melted ice, chemicals and winter slush out of the house. I haven't seen any other dogs wearing boots this winter but we were regularly stopped by other dog owners asking how they work, if my dog likes them etc. When we went to the vet for the annual check up his vet was like that Impressed with the product and the way my dog wore them and walked in that he took him to two other exam rooms to show other dog owners who were complaining about the difficulty of walking their dogs in the winter , how they look and how they work. .I washed them twice. Once in the middle of winter and another time at the end of the season. They've had a lot of mileage but they've survived the wash just fine and we're all ready for next winter. I am very happy with my purchase and would happily recommend them to all dog owners. A little advice - buy them before the start of the season. You can find the size and color you want and most likely won't have to pay the premium price you have to pay when the weather pushes demand. However, I think these muttluks were worth every penny I paid for them twice last season.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Good but not great
